Desire
Desire is what causes things to happen. For example, if there were no desire in anger, we would never curse someone or hit them. If there were no desire in love, we wouldn’t want to bring happiness to people or reduce their suffering. It is desire itself that brings the final action, not the emotion underlying it. – Jerome Freedman, Mindfulness Breaks: Your Path to Awakening NOTE: This month we celebrate my teachers, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and Father Eli, who taught me so much about meditation, “mind stories” and visualization. My book, Mindfulness Breaks, Your Path to Awakening, celebrates Thich Nhat Hanh and Father Eli. The book was released last month. Chick on the link below or in the bio for more information. |

Smiles in Context
Positive psychology has been criticized for overemphasizing the potential of individuals to transcend their circumstances. But not every life context affords the same opportunities for flourishing. The promise ‘smile, think positive thoughts, and you will be happy and healthy’ underestimates the importance of social context for psychological well-being and health. – James Coyne, “Self-Help for the Affluent “ |

Egocentric karmic conditioning/self-hate specializes in the “that’s beautiful/that’s ugly,” “that’s malevolent/that’s healing.” The dualistic world of the illusion of a self separate from Life is constantly comparing/judging. But we know that dualistic process is an illusion. There’s no such thing as this or that; there’s only and always this AND that. One whole.

Taking Ourselves Less Seriously
Glimpsing nonself clearly, even for one moment, puts ordinary truth in perspective. When the conventional picture returns, we regard it differently. What a relief when we no longer have to take our “selves” so seriously! – Cynthia Thatcher, “Disconnect the Dots “ |
