Dear *[FNAME]*: |
Dr. King said, “I’ve decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” It was the sticking to love that has inspired me and supported me over my own journey–his willingness to live in the integrity of that for which he stood. His steadfastness and forthrightness mirrors what I’ve been taught in the Dharma and what I try to put forth in my practice. “Taking the seat with dignity” is often thought of as standing against hate and injustice, but it’s important to note that Dr. King actually took a stand for love, for equality, for equity, for compassion, for empathy, for non-harming.

Kindness is Society
During a lecture while I was interpreting for the Dalai Lama, he said in what seemed to me to be broken English, ‘Kindness is society.’ I wasn’t smart enough to think he was saying kindness is society. I thought he meant kindness is important to society; kindness is vital to society; but he was saying that kindness is so important that we cannot have society without it. Society is impossible without it. Thus, kindness IS society; society IS kindness. Without concern for other people it’s impossible to have society. – Jeffrey Hopkins, “Equality” Click here to learn how you can receive a 30 minute Mindfulness Break in your home. |

The Pursuit of Happiness
It’s our nature to want happiness and not want suffering. Thus, Buddhists do not ask that one give up the pursuit of happiness, but merely suggest that one become more intelligent about how happiness is pursued. – Jeffrey Hopkins, “Equality” |
