Mini Mindfulness Break for September 23, 2021

Dear *[FNAME]*:
The secret to happiness is finding the perfect balance between desire and gratitude.

What does your heart yearn for? What makes you so grateful you want to do cartwheels?

Smack dab in the middle of those two lies happiness.

– Lissa Rankin, Your Inner Pilot Light

Dear *[FNAME]*:
Dear One,
I have good news and bad news.
However you’re feeling right now, this too shall pass.
In fact, if you let yourself purely feel the emotion without complicating it with language, whatever you feel will most likely end in about ninety seconds.
If you’re sad, it’s fleeting. (Phew!)
If you’re blissed out, it won’t last either. (Bummer.) If you’re enraged, it will move through you. (Grrrrr.)
If you’re bursting with obsessively romantic fervor, the crush will fade. (Sigh . . .)
Find comfort in this, darling. States are fleeting, but it’s possible to have a deeper level of joy that is not dependent on transient states. When you’re not grasping for feelings you like and resisting feelings you don’t like, you’re more likely to find gratitude in the moment for whatever experience of human emotion you’re blessed to feel right now.
Don’t like how you feel in this present moment?
Don’t worry. I’m here with you every ninety seconds.
Nothing lasts but me,
Your Inner Pilot Light

Dear *[FNAME]*:
You know how sometimes you feel inferior to others, and other times you feel superior?
Darling, this only stems from a misguided notion that we are not all One.
So many suffer from the illusion of separateness, and it leaves you feeling different, special, and unworthy, like everyone else belongs – except you.
But know this. You belong. We all belong. You are not less than or better than. You are equal to every other soul on this planet because every one of us has within us a little spark of divinity that makes us worthy.
Know who that little spark of divinity is?

It’s so easy to get caught up ruminating about the past or planning the future that we forget to relish the present moment. But this moment–yes, this one right here–is the only moment that isn’t either a bygone memory or a figment of your imagination.
When you’re so busy looking backwards or looking forwards, you forget that radical aliveness exists only NOW.

Mini Mindfulness Break for May 12, 2020

“As an experiment in radical self-compassion, you could give yourself permission to not-know, for now, without any shame, judgment, or pressure to urgently find answers or to resolve the mystery. But to rest and to trust in the unfolding of the human heart. This embodied not-knowing is not passive or a resigned giving up, but alive, fiery, curious, and honoring of the dark as well as the light. There is profound wisdom and creativity in the core of not-knowing, in slowness, and in rest, but we must retrain ourselves to receive that level of revelation. In this reception, we see that not-knowing is a perfectly valid, honorable, and authentic place to be, and not in need of transformation. It is a pure expression of life, in and of itself, exactly as it is. Its value is not in its transcendence, but in its full-spectrum embrace.”

Mini Mindfulness Break for March 01, 2020

I am the glowing sun under layers and layers of that which is not me. Getting to know the real ME is like peeling the layers of an onion. No sooner do you shed one whole layer that another layer is revealed.
Don’t be discouraged by this, my love! There’s no rush to peeling back all these layers. Remember, it’s the journey, not the destination that matters.
After all, if all those layers just fell off in one fell swoop, you might be flooded with an almost intolerable nuclear blast of all my radiant light!
Cherish the journey, letting those layers slowly peel away to reveal more and more of the fire within. Appreciate each layer as it sheds away, bringing you one step closer to freedom. Don’t rush! There’s no hurry, love.
Just feel the glow of me within and nourish yourself with what is already right here, inside your own heart.
With loads of love (and a few delicious onion rings),
Your Inner Pilot Light

Mini Mindfulness Break for January 08, 2020

If you focus all your attention on appreciating your life without being honest with yourself about where you want more, you might find yourself turning your back on the tender vulnerability of your deepest yearnings. It simply hurts too much to open yourself to the potential disappointment of not having this unmet longing met. But if you constantly desire more without being grateful for what you have right now, you’ll never feel satisfied. This puts you at risk of constantly feeding the “hungry ghost”–the gaping hole that wants more, more, more but never gets full, no matter how many desires get fulfilled.

Mini Mindfulness Break for June 02, 2019

I love you when you’re juicy, full of aliveness, and feeling the buzzing energy of calm excitement in your body.
I love you when you feel numb, depressed, and empty.
I love you when you’re dancing on tiptoe, spinning with ecstasy and feeling grateful for the gift of being alive.
I love when you’re too exhausted to care for yourself, much less anyone else.
I love you when you’re smack dab in the center of your life purpose, feeling the deep joy of knowing you’re giving your gifts to the world.
I love you when you’re in the space between stories, you don’t know why you’re here, and you feel lost, rudderless, and desperate to find your calling.
Honestly, darling, I don’t have a preference. Others might say it, but I really mean it. I love you just the way you are. (Cue Billy Joel . . . doo wa doo wa.)
For better or for worse
