Dear *[FNAME]*: |
Always we seek the presence that includes. How can excitement be joyful, energizing, and serve Life? We can see the tendency to veer off–yes, following ego–from “pure” to “impure.” By that I mean simply from “Life” to “ego.” It’s so tricky because it’s all the same, isn’t it? Excitement is excitement feels like excitement and wants to act–wait a minute–there we have it. It’s when we get to “act” that we really want to be heads up. When we slide into “doing,” we want to be paying close, close attention. That’s the point at which we’re usually bamboozled into doing something we would rather we hadn’t done!

What Nature Teaches
Nature teaches us simplicity and contentment, because in its presence we realize we need very little to be happy. – Mark Coleman, “A Breath of Fresh Air” |

We’re not attempting to meet some standard egocentric karmic conditioning/self-hate sets for us and badgers us to meet. We’re learning, growing, and changing in a process of coming to Presence.

“The best gift we can offer our beloved is our true presence, our true listening. We can ask our beloved one, “Darling, do you think I understand you enough? Please tell me how you are really doing. Please open your heart and help me to understand your joys and difficulties, so I can understand you and truly love you.’

Practice attending to attention! If we “try” to repeat an experience that was the result of presence, we’re trying rather than being present and the result is “failure and frustration.”

Mini Mindfulness Break for October 22, 2020
How Prayer Works
To understand how prayer works, consider the sun, which shines everywhere without hesitation or hindrance. Like God or Buddha, it continuously radiates all its power, warmth, and light without differentiation. When the earth turns, it appears to us that the sun no longer shines. But that has nothing to do with the sun; it’s due to our own position on the shadow side of the earth. If we inhabit a deep, dark mine shaft, it’s not the sun’s fault that we feel cold. Or if we live on the earth’s surface but keep our eyes closed, it’s not the sun’s fault that we don’t see light. The sun’s blessings are all-pervasive, whether we are open to them or not. Through prayer, we come out of the mine shaft, open our eyes, become receptive to enlightened presence, the omnipotent love and compassion that exist for all beings. – Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche, “Prayer” |

Mini Mindfulness Break for March 14, 2020
When we make a commitment, our commitment is always to presence, not to what we’re committed to. If we focus on the commitment itself, conditioning distracts our attention from process to content. When a commitment becomes the end in itself it’s an instrument of suffering.

Free to Act Wisely
Is it possible to imagine that power might be defined by presence of mind; that the more one is no longer controlled by compulsions, addictions, patterns, habits, the more power one has to act in service of wisdom and compassion? What if we said that power is internal freedom, that power is the capacity for choice? – Helen Tworkov, “Just Power “ Click here to learn how you can receive a 30 minute Mindfulness Break in your home. |
