Mini Mindfulness Break for December 03, 2021

Dear *[FNAME]*:
Too busy, too much to do, will never get it all done, urgent, rush anxiety” IS A STORY IN CONDITIONED MIND! As soon as we get HERE, we see none of it is true. Life is the ultimate time management expert. There’s always time to do what needs to be done in any moment.

Dear *[FNAME]*:
Practice regarding the physical sensations that constantly flow from your body to your mind with detached curiosity. Some feel good, some feel bad—interesting! Resist trying to shape the next moment into something other than what it will naturally become by grasping for more gratification or pushing away any discomfort. This ability to be with what is, rather than yearning for something else, eliminates most suffering.

Dear *[FNAME]*:
One thing that helps in dealing with praise and blame is not to take things personally. Having yourself be the focus of everything can be seen as a kind of intoxication, distorting your perception of things as they actually are. Remind yourself that conditions are transient, that peoples’ opinions are subject to change, and that they may not praise or blame you with any real understanding of who you are or what you had in mind.

Dear *[FNAME]*:
There’s nothing in life that is not supporting us to choose Life over ego suffering. But we don’t see it. We don’t see it because as Life is unfolding goodness for us we’re zoomed in on conditioned mind as it tells stories of “something wrong” and “not enough.” It’s like being in a movie theatre with two side-by-side screens, one showing “wrong” and one showing “IS.” What we tune in to determines the life we have.

Dear *[FNAME]*:
When we come into contact with the other person, our thoughts and actions should express our mind of compassion, even if that person says and does things that are not easy to accept. We practice in this way until we see clearly that our love is not contingent upon the other person being lovable.

– Thich Nhat Hanh

Dear *[FNAME]*:
“I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things;
then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful.
Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! —- I do not want to wage war against what is ugly.
I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse.
Looking away shall be my only negation.
And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.”
= n i e t z s c h e

The way back to my real environment, the place where my soul was meant to exist, doesn’t lie through any set of codes I will ever find outside of myself. I have to look inward. I have to jettison every sorrow, every terror, every misconception, every lie that stands between my conscious mind and what I know in my heart to be true. Instead of clutching around me all the trappings of a “good” person, a “successful” person, or even a “righteous” person, I have to be exactly what I am, and take the horrible chance that I may be rejected for it. I can’t get home by cloaking myself in the armor of any system, social, political, or religious. I have to strip off all that comforting armor and go on.

Dear *[FNAME]*:
Live Lightly

We have to cultivate contentment with what we have. We really don’t need much. When you know this, the mind settles down. Cultivate generosity. Delight in giving. Learn to live lightly. In this way, we can begin to transform what is negative into what is positive. This is how we start to grow up.

Dear *[FNAME]*:
“We have to wake up to the fact that everything is connected to everything else. Our safety and wellbeing cannot be individual matters anymore. If “they” are not safe, there is no way that “we” can be safe. Taking care of other people’s safety is taking care of our own safety. To take care of their well-being is to take care of our own well-being. It is the mind of discrimination and separation that is at the foundation of all violence and hate.”

The Mind’s Shimmering Reflection

Mind is thus neither the source of light, like a shining sun, nor the reflected light of something greater, like the moon, but a shimmering pool of contingent potential, capable of reflecting sun, moon, and any other object that happens to dance upon its surface.
