The obvious is that which is never seen until someone expresses it simply.

Meditation in Action
Buddhism often appears to promote personal transformation at the expense of social concern. Some Buddhist teachings claim that the mind does not just affect the world, it actually creates and sustains it. According to this view, cosmic harmony is most effectively preserved through an individual’s spiritual practice. Yet other Buddhists amend the notion that mind is the primary or exclusive source of peace, contending that inner serenity is fostered or impeded by external conditions. Buddhists who place importance upon social factors and social action believe that internal transformation cannot, by itself, quell the world’s turbulence. – Kenneth Kraft, “Meditation in Action” Click here to learn how you can receive a 30 minute Mindfulness Break in your home. |

If we want there to be peace in the world, then we have to take responsibility when our own hearts and minds harden and close. We have to be brave enough to soften what is rigid, to find the soft spot and stay with it. We have to have that kind of courage and take that kind of responsibility. That’s true spiritual warriorship. That’s the true practice of peace.

A Place of Belonging
My suffering does not set me apart: it makes me belong. I now know that my being with whatever arises is a purification, a lens polished–often with tears from the past–with which I must stand firm against the waves of segregating myself from the world. – Sarah Conover, “Lost At Sea” Click here to learn how you can receive a 30 minute Mindfulness Break in your home. |

Recently I’ve been pondering a process I call “bewilderment”–or, as I like to pronounce it, be-wilder-ment. It’s like enlightenment, but way less ambitious. I figure if we all become a little wilder, a little more present, a little more connected to whatever it is that makes dogs so damn happy, we’ll feel better and do better things. The first step in the bewilderment process, upon which everything else depends, is simple: CALM DOWN.

Seek Out Real Change
The validity of a teaching has nothing to do with the qualities of the teacher. All that matters is whether, when put into practice, it can effect a real change in the way you live. – Stephen Batchelor, “Why I Quit Guru Devotion” Click here to learn how you can receive a 30 minute Mindfulness Break in your home. |
